Hamiltons can help anyone seeking house moving companies to relocate to Frinton-on-Sea, Basildon, Southend, Colchester, Brentwood, Harlow, Saffron Walden, Chelmsford, Grays, Clacton-on-Sea, Harwich, Witham, Maldon, Canvey Island or any other location in Essex.

Moving to Essex
Essex is a fast-growing area of the country, with a population of 1.4 million, which is expected to rise to around 1.65 million over the next decade. Many people moving to Essex want to commute to London, but others find work within the county itself. Essex is also a popular destination for people seeking a new home on retirement, often after moving out of the capital.

Commuting to London - The London property boom has seen many city dwellers selling up and moving to other nearby towns. Essex is within easy reach of the capital, yet property here is often cheaper than in the other Home Counties, such as Kent and Surrey. Travelling by train from Chelmsford or Basildon to London takes only about 35 minutes, while the journey from Southend is around an hour.

Employment - Essex is one of the counties which has seen the fastest recovery following the recession, with plans to create tens of thousands of new jobs here. There is a varied economy, with leading employers including electronics companies, mechanical engineering firms and the major Essex ports, Tilbury, London Gateway and Harwich International.

Retirement - Many people decide to move to the coast when they retire. The upmarket Essex resort of Frinton is often named as one of the most desirable locations for retirement living, while nearby Walton-on-the-Naze is another popular choice.

Key Areas within Essex

London Borders
The area of Essex bordering London is ideal for city commuters, with good links to the capital via rail, bus and road. Property in Brentwood is in particular demand as the Crossrail project takes shape. Property prices in the town have soared in recent years, and are expected to grow still further once the line opens. But it's not all about Crossrail, since the town itself has received high ratings as a good place to live in "quality of life" surveys. There are also many jobs based here. For instance, car manufacturer Ford has its UK HQ in Brentwood, employing around 800 people.

The nearby Basildon district, together with Castle Point and Thurrock, partly falls within the Thames Gateway area. Here a major urban regeneration project is taking place, with the new London Gateway port creating 12,000 jobs, and there are four enterprise parks in Basildon alone. Thurrock has become a top shopping destination because of its Lakeside centre, near Grays, while the port of Tilbury employs many thousands of people.

Epping is popular with young professionals and families moving to Essex, combining a rural atmosphere with good transport links, including an underground station. Rayleigh, Chipping Ongar and Ingatestone are also popular with commuters.

Coastal Essex
The Essex coast offers a varied landscape, with thriving ports, seaside towns and leisure facilities. Many people move to coastal Essex because of job opportunities created by the ports, but others decide to make the move to the area on retirement. Harwich International Port is a major employer operating container services and welcoming cruise ships, while there are also proposals to build the £300 million Bathside Bay deep sea container port nearby. Adjoining Harwich, Dovercourt offers modern housing and leisure facilities.

Popular seaside areas include the north Essex resorts of Clacton, Frinton and Walton-on-the-Naze on the "Sunshine Coast", all well known for their sandy beaches. While Frinton and Walton are especially popular with people retiring to the area, Clacton is often chosen by people undertaking removals to Essex from London. To the south, Southend is popular both as a resort, with the world's longest leisure pier, and because of its proximity to London. Other coastal communities include Brightlingsea, Southminster, West Mersea, Canvey Island and Burnham-on-Crouch.

Inland Essex
Essex shares borders with Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and often attracts home-movers from these neighbouring counties who want to live nearer to London. One of the most beautiful areas of Essex is Constable Country, on the border with Suffolk. Here the village of Dedham is a magnet for tourists, while the nearby small town of Manningtree has excellent transport links, as it is on the main line to London. Near the border with Hertfordshire, London Stansted Airport is one of the UK's busiest airports and more than 10,000 people are employed here.

Inland Essex has a number of large towns and the UK's newest city, Chelmsford, awarded its status during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year. Chelmsford is within easy commuting distance of London and has a business park with a number of employers including technology and financial services firms. Businesses are also investing in the town of Harlow, which has enterprise zone status, and Public Health England is looking to build a new science hub here.

Known as England's oldest town, Colchester is looking to the future and is now the fastest-growing town in the country. Many high quality housing developments are being built here which are attracting people who want to move to Essex. Many people also move to Colchester for educational reasons, as the University of Essex is based here, while Chelmsford is home to one of the two main campuses for Anglia Ruskin University.

Smaller communities such as Rayleigh, Rochford, Braintree, Maldon, Witham, Saffron Walden, Halstead and South Woodham Ferrers are also popular with people planning removals to the county. And Essex has a wealth of rural small towns and villages, such as Great Dunmow and Coggeshall, both frequently named as among Britain's most attractive places to live.
