Removals to Marseille
Located 700 km from Paris with a population of over 1.5 Million, Marseille is the second largest city in France, This trendy and cosmopolitan city, located on the Mediterranean coast can be reached by TGV from Paris in a little under three hours. It is also easily accessible be low cost airline, with many scheduled flights operating to and from European cities. This ease of communication has put Marseille firmly on the map for business as well as pleasure.
With two very distinct advantages over the capital, namely its beaches and its climate, Marseille is fast becoming the destination of choice in southern France. Mild winters and long hot summers mean that sun bathing and relaxation have become almost an art form in this part of the world. A cooling Mediterranean breeze makes this pastime all the more enjoyable.
Like Paris, Marseilles is divided into Arrondisements. Some host busy street markets whilst others that are closer to the old harbour, offer up the delights of seafood and cafes with views of pleasure boats moored around the old port.
Much of Marseille is pedestrianised and the public transport system above ground utilises tramways. This system though extensively modernised and now completely up-to-date, has been in operation since 1876 and is, unlike most tram systems in France, the only one to have remained in operation.
Marseilles has a wealth of interesting and historically important buildings, amongst which is the Basilique Notre Dame de La Garde located to the south of the old port. Another principal attraction is La Cathedrale de la Nouvelle Major, a beautiful cathedral overlooking the sea. Another of Marseille's must-sees is the Palais du Pharo - a grand palace, once home to Napoleon III.
The cultural centre of Marseille has some wonderful parks, gardens, museums and art galleries to peruse and enjoy. Among these are the Parc Borély, the Jardin du Pharo and the Jardin Pierre Puget. The Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology features local artefacts as well as Egyptian treasures. Marseille's Natural History Museum features many exhibits about the natural world that it is possible to interact with. The French fashion world is also well represented with the Musee de la Mode. Modern art enthusiasts will be at home at the Musee Cantini.
